PLAYING INTO THE ENEMY'S
HANDS
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —I would like to endorse the remarks made by "Hopeful" in Saturday's "Evening Post." I think he is quite correct in his remarks regarding the way our people are criticising Great Britain and its Government. I have heard quite a few people on the same subject. Perhaps we have made a lot of mistakes in this war, but it must be remembered so have the enemy; and the amount of rumour going around at the moment regarding our leaders and what they should be doing; what we should be doing; what the enemy are doing, etc., just about makes me sick. I have heard Winston Churchill criticised in a ridiculous way. I suggest that people who spread that type of "news," and those who listen to it, bear in mind that the majority of us were only too glad to see Winston Churchill become Prime Minister a while ago.
I would also like to say a word regarding those people who say they heard the Tokio radio broadcasts about New Zealand. I have heard a lot of this tripe, but I haven't yet met one person who has actually. heard the broadcast themselves. They have all heard it from someone whom they guarantee is absolutely reliable. Well, to me people who talk like that are nothing short of "fifth columnists." All these types of rumour are just what the enemy want to go around. It strikes me as being an excellent method of demoralisation. We are demoralising ourselves!—in lots of cases unconsciously. I would just like to suggest that those who. must talk like that probe into the subject and find out how true it actually is before passing it on, if they must; and to those who must listen, either do likewise or keep quiet. Just because we are, faced with danger there is no need to get panicky. Britain has been in greater danger and come out all right. We should always remember- that we are still "all British."—l am, etc.,
ALL BRITISH,
