NEW GUINEA AREA

(Rec. 9 a.m.) SYDNEY, Feb. 23

An official report from Canberra states that there was slight enemy air activity in the New Guinea area during the weekend. Allied shipping in the Timor Sea was again bombed by Japanese flying-boats, as far as is known without results.

though it is feared that all the Allied promises are not going to be fulfilled.

"The Dutch here see themselves in the same position as England was after Europe had been conquered. They say, "Hitler has got everything but what hewanted—England. The Japanese have got everything but what they want— Java. ' If we can hold Java we will turn the tide of the war.'"
