APPEAL TO U.S.A.

EQUIPMENT FOR N.Z.

MR. NASH ON RADIO

(By Telegraph—J.'ress. Aasoclatiou—Copyright.) WASHINGTON, February 21. The New Zealand Minister to Washington, Mr. Walter Nash, in a broadcast speech, urged the United States to send more planes, tanks, and war equipment td New Zealand immediately. Mr, Nash said: "We realise that the defence of our shores is first and foremost our own responsibility. We appreciate what our friends in the United States and Britain have already provided .for New Zealand's defence, but our needs are more urgent than ever. "Our appeals for assistance are not prompted by selfish fears for our personal fortunes, but rather by our firm belief that the war in the Pacific will be long and hard, and that, from a general strategic viewpoint, successful defence of New Zealand is of vital importance."
