VICTORY PROGRAMME

AMERICA MAKES ARMS

RUGBY, February 20

President Roosevelt's leml-iease expeditor, Mr. Averell Harriman, has broadcast to the V army the facts about American output.

I "The United States alone is producing 90,000,000 tons of steel yearly, twice as much as the steel production of all Europe put together, and three times Germany's production and over ten times Japans/ he said. "We have got one city which makes more motor-cars than all the rest of the world put together. Last year it made 14,000 motor vehicles daily— 5,000,000 cars a year. Germany's biggest year's production was 350,000 cars, : about 25 days' output for America. ' "America's gigantic automobile in-i dustry has stopped making cars. There will be no more cars, except I'or military use, till we have won the war. These huge factories are building tanks and aeroplanes. WILL BE DELIVERED. "When the President says he wants 60,000 planes, 45,000 tanks, and 8,000,000 tons of ships this year he knows he will get them. And more next year. "During the last two years we have! been getting ready. We were building for Britain and France. j "Since the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour our help to the united nations j has not stopped. It has increased, and continues to increase, because American war production will grow month by month till the Axis power is broken.

"The defence programme of 1940 is now the victory programme. We have an army of millions already. This will be doubled before the year is out. The advance guard of American troops is in Europe now. Many more will come.

"We have an industrial army of 15.000.000. the finest in the world— skilled, well-paid, free men. These free and resolute millions are backing our war production. This .is just what Hitler lacks, and it is. giving Hitler the jitters."—-8.0.W.
