HEAVY ENGAGEMENTS

LONDON, February. 20

Tonight's news about the Philippines is of continued heavy fighting on all sectors in the Batan Peninsula.

Yesterday, Japanese pressure was reported to be increasing. The latest communique adds that enemy planes dropped incendiary bombs on installations behind the defenders' lines.

Examination of these bombs disclosed that the Japanese are using white phosphorus as an incendiary filler. White phosphorus ignites on contact with the air.
