BOMB EXPLOSIONS
SEVEN DEAD IN WEST AUSTRALIAN TOWN
SYDNEY, February 2,
Seven persons are known to be dead, and two others who were injured are not expected to recover, as a result of bomb ; outrages at; Boulder, Western Australia, early today.
The first explosion occurred just after midnight at a private house in the town, when a bomb came through the window and wrecked the dwelling. Five persons were killed outright, and two of those who were injured died later in hospital. '
The second outrage.was perpetrated a few minutes later at a delicensed hotel about 150 yards away. Two men and a woman were injured in explosions which . occurred in these premises, and the roof and a brick wall were blown out.
A man was observed in the backyard lighting a bomb fuse, and was seen to hurl the bomb into the kitchen. Another came from a different direction. The occupants had a very lucky escape.
The bodies of the men killed in the private house were so badly mutilated that identification is difficult. All the injured in this explosion are in a serious condition. English-speaking Yugoslavs are co-operating with the police investigation of the crime, and arrests are expected. The police suspect the bombings to be the culmination of a feud among a foreign element, comprising mostly Yugoslavs, Italians, and Czecho-Slovakians, who have recently been brawling in the goldfields centres. The home of a goldfields Magistrate was recently bombed, but nobody was injured. (Rec. 1 p.m.) KALGOORLIE, This Day. The death-roll in the bombings is now 12 dead and 17 in hospital.
The body of a man vho h believed to have been responsible was found later in Boulder cemetery. It is thought that he committed suic'de, also with a bomb, and it is understood that he was a miner.
Some of those in hospital are in a critical condition.
