WAR IN LOWER BURMA

LONDON, January 28,

The Rangoon communique reports that the situation in Lower Burma remains unchanged. A number of troops of the Burma Rifles and Burma Frontier Force have now arrived. Contact has been made with the enemy's advanced forces east of the Slaween River.

A newsagency message reports another smashing defeat of Japanese planes attacking Rangoon. In the morning raid about 40 Japanese planes lost about one-third of their force, six, being definitely destroyed, six probably shot down, and nine damaged by the American Volunteer Group.
