VICTORY AT CHANGSHA
TURNING POINT OF
WAR?
(Rec. 10.45 a.m.) CHUNGKING, January 7. The Chinese Press described the Changsha victory as the turning point of the Allies' campaign from the defensive to the offensive in the Far East and urged the Chinese forces to strike into Thailand and Indo-China to divert the Japanese from Malaya. The remnants of the Japanese army of 100,000 men are reported to be fleeing northwards after the stunning defeat at Changsha. The Japanese are reported to have suffered 7000 additional casualties while breaking through the Chinese forces blocking the line of retreat.
