Various problems of tramway and bus management were considered at the conference of the Public Passenger Transport Association, held ,at Electricity House. Matters discussed included the effect of petrol restrictions on public transport systems, shortage of rolling stock in some centres, and shortage of operating staff in others. Information was forthcoming about the effect of staggering the hours of work and amusement and school hours and the consequent relief of peakloading hours.

A matter which .gave rise to considerable discussion was the standardisation of material, particularly in regard to the building of trolley and other buses. There was disclosed some divergence of practice in regard to tramway fares for members of the armed forces, and a discussion helped to co-ordinate ideas. Tied to that was the question of free passes to disabled soldiers and others suffering from varying disabilities. Other matters discussed were the more equitable apportionment of petrol tax. the payment of rates on tramway tracks, variation in conditions governing taxi services, and the carriage of perambulators on tramcars
