SALES TAX SNOWBALL

SYDNEY, October 30

Imposed as a temporary measure 10 years ago during the depression by the Scullin Government, the sales tax has now become a.permanent "snow-' ball" in the Australian'financial system.

The sum collected in this way during 1930-31 amounted to £3,492,854. It rose to £9,432,484 in 1935-36, while in the current-financial year- it is expected to yield £19,792,680. •
