IS THERE A WILL?

WIDOW'S FORTUNE

OPINION OF NEPHEW

Regarding it as. unlikely tnat a will was left by Mrs. Alice Merry, who died in Wellington recently leaving a fortune of £100,000, of which over £26,500 was found in a room of the house in which she lived, Mr. Percy Wood, a nephew states that Mrs. Merry's brother and two sisters all died intestate. Mr. Wood's mother, one of the sisters (Miss Mary Powell), was one of the first of the family to come to New Zealand from Truro, Cornwall. She was followed by her brother, Mr. J. J. K. Powell, and later by the remainder of the family, including Mrs. Merry. Their father died in Taranaki after having lived at various places in the province. Mr. Percy Wood is one of the relatives of Mrs. Merry now living in Taranaki. He has ten children, and a brother of his, Mr. Robert Wood has two sons. Another brother, Mr. William Henry Wood, left Taranaki a good many years ago and is believed to be in the Wanganui or Manawatu districts. Mrs. Ettie Hague, a daughter of Mrs. Mary Wood, lives in Canada, and another member of the family, Mrs. Alice Love, died in the Waikato district a few years ago, leaving an adult family. "We all knew her very well and found her a very decent sort," said Mr. Percy Wood of his aunt, Mrs. Merry. Years ago he had spent a holiday with her but the last time he saw her was when in Wellington sc?en or' eight years ago. '■ ■
