SENT TO GERMANY

CLOTHES COLLECTOR IN

FRANCE

RUGBY, October 30.

A national relief fund has been started in unoccupied France, and at Lyons a collection of second-hand clothing was made. One Frenchman gave away an overcoat, and in a pocket he slipped his card, writing on the back of it, "Please let me know if you need money." Two months later he had a reply—from Germany. The German thanked him warmly for the coat and said he did not need money.

The indignant Frenchman demanded an explanation at the prefecture, and he. was told that the clothes donated had in fact been sent to Germany, where the winter was more severe than in France.—B.O.W.
