COLONEL PARK APPOINTED

Lieut-Colonel ( temporary .Colonel) H. S. Park. Regiment of the Royal N.Z. Artillery, has been appointed officer commanding the recently-formed United Kingdom Section of the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force. This post is tq be in addition to his present appointment of liaison officer at the office of the High Commissioner for New Zealand in London.

Colonel Park, who was born in Dun■edin in 1895, attended the Otago Boys'

High School, and was selected as one of a contingent of senior cadets who visited Canada in 1911. He attended the Royal Military College at Duntroon from 1914 to 1916, and was granted a commission as lieutenant in the Royal N.Z. Artillery in 1916. He served in France and Belgium from 1917 to .1920. He was promoted to the rank of captain, and on his return to New Zealand rejoined the R.N.Z.A. During ensuing years he held various staff appointments, and in 1524 he left for England to attend the' Artillery College at Woolwich. He returned to New. Zealand in 1927... In 1933 he was promoted to the rank of m^jor, and in 1937 was appointed commander, R.N.Z.A., at Army Headquarters with the' temporary rank •' of lieutenant-, colonel. He was appointed liaison officer at the office of the High Commissioner in London in 1939, with the temporary rank of colonel. Colonel Park is well known in Wellington for the interest he took in sport, particularly tennis. ■
