AUSTRALIAN BUDGET
ORTHODOX IN 'NATURE
SOME LABOUR AND UNION
DISAPPOINTMENT
(Rec. 9 a.m.) CANBERRA, Oct. 30,
Newspaper correspondents see little likelihood of a political crisis arising over the Budget which is regarded as more or less orthodox.
The Opposition's attack is expected to be confined to words.
The consensus of opinion is that the Curtin Government is now firmly entrenched and likely to continue to command the support of the two Independents, whose votes are all important. Some of the younger Labour members, as well as the union leaders, are disappointed with the Budget, which they contend does not give adequate effect to Labour's particular theories, but on the contrary subjects the workers to heavier indirect taxation through the sales tax and excise duties, all of which will be passed on by the business people.
