ATTACK ON SOUTH RENEWED

(Rec. 11.30 a.m.) RUGBY, October 30,

A Middle East communique states: "R.A.F. medium bombers. made a series of successful attacks on military objectives at Siderna and Locri, in southern Italy, yesterday.

"Direct hits on a factory and- building south of it were obtained at Locri. Another factory and gas works were hit at Siderna, where a fire broke' out which covered the area with a cloud of smoke visible many miles away.

"Large fires were also started at Soverato. Bombs also fell on military buildings, railway sidings, and a pumping station, and direct hits were scored on the railway station and track.

"A further raid was carried out at Catanzaro Marino, where a factory and train at the station were hit. Machinegun ffosts were silenced by the return machine-gun fire from our aircraft.

"In North Africa, R.A.F. heavy bomber aircraft raided Benghazi on the night of October 27-28, and* Tripoli on the following night. At Benghazi, bombs fell on the cathedral-mole and the harbour works, while at Tripoli the customs house and military stores and Meelah aerodrome were attacked."— 8.0. W.
