FAMOUS BARITONE
TO VISIT NEW ZEALAND
Arrangements have been made by the management committee of the Royal Wellington Choral Union for Mr. Harold Williams, the famous Australian baritone, to sing the baritone solo music in Handel's "Messiah" in the Wellington Town Hall on December 6. Mr. Williams will sing the same music with the Auckland Musical Society on the evening of December 13. He is also to be heard in ballad and operatic recitals under the aegis of the National Broadcasting Service during his stay in New Zealand. During the last fifteen years Mr. Williams has been one of England's standard baritones in concert and oratorio, besides which he has appeared in grand opera (in English) at Covent Garden and other opera houses of the Old Country. He visited Australia in 1929, under J. and N. Tait, and was a member of the English Grand Opera Company which was brought out in 1934 by Mr. Benjamin Fuller in connection with the centenary of Victoria. After the big blitz of London last year Mr. Williams, who served with the A.I.F. in the last war, decided to return to his native country, with his wife and family. This will be the singer's first visit to the Dominion.
