N.Z. REPRESENTATIVE
APPOINTMENT DESIRED
I "The question of New Zealand hay ing a representative attached to tin International Red Cross at Geneva haj been raised by the Government witS International Red Cross, and by myself in London," the' Prime Ministei (Mr. Fraser) said in the House oj Representatives, yesterday, when asked by Mr. A. S. Richards (Government Roskill) if the Government had considered appointing a representative to further the -welfare of New Zealand 1 prisoners of war and to get information for their next-of-kin. "I was informed by the Red Cross headquarters in London that neither the Swiss Government nor International Red Cross favoured the .idea," Mr. Fraser added. "The Government is of the opinion, however, that under the circumstances existing at present, direct New Zealand representation is warranted, and steps have already been taken for further representations to be made in this matter through the United Kingdom Government."
