SIGNS OF WAR STRAIN

BECOMING APPARENT

CONVICTIONS FOR SABOTAGE

LONDON, September 26.

There are reports from Milan suggesting that all is not well on the Italian home front. A special courtmartial has been set up and it is officially admitted that 445 Italians have been convicted of sabotaging war material.

' The Italian paper "Regima Fascista" speaks sharply of people who do not take the war grimly enough. "The time has come to put an end to this defeatism," it says.

"Defeatism feeds on rumours, criticisms made in bad faith, jokes that spread through the country and poison people's souls. The time has come to end intolerance."
