JAPAN'S ADHERENCE
ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATED
LOYALTY TO THE AXIS
LONDON, September 26.
Tomorrow Japan will celebrate the anniversary of her signing of the Tripartite Pact. On the eve of the anniversary Captain Kenzo Ito, of the Cabinet Information Board, declared in a broadcast that co-operation with the other Axis Powers remained an integral part of Japan's foreign policy.
He said the significance of the Pact lay in the fact that Japan's leading position in the establishment of a new order in greater East Asia had been definitely recognised.
It was quite natural that Japan, Germany, and Italy should co-operate, since.all three had the same ideals and aspirations. Captain Ito said he wished to emphasise that the Pact would not be affected in the least by the activities of any third party trying to alienate the three countries from each other.
It is expected that the Japanese Foreign Minister, Vice-Admiral Toyoda, will make a speech tomorrow.
The Japanese Press echoes the official viewpoint. The "Nichnichi Shimbun" refers to the maintenance of the spirit of the pact and the "Japan Times" reminds Italy and Germany how much they owe to Japan, and adds: "Due recognition will no doubt be given."
