THE WEEK'S WORK

VEGETABLE GARDEN

All seasonal vegetables may be sown, including peas, carrots, parsnips, turnips, lettuces, beet, and radishes. Encourage the growth of all seedling crops by early thinning, keeping the rows free from weeds and frequent loosening of the soil between the rows. All green crops such as cabbages, lettuces, spinach, etc., respond to weak doses of nitrate of soda at intervals of two or three weeks. Earth up early-planted potatoes and spray with Bordeaux Mixture. Rhubarb roots may still be planted. Give them very rich soil. Plant out autumn-sown onions on beds which have been thoroughly manured and well worked.
