BEAUTY OF SPRING

IRRESISTIBLE ATTRACTION

HUGE CROWDS AT FLOWER

SHOW

Mrs. Knox Gilmer, president of the Wellington .Horticultural Society, welcomed their Excellencies the GovernorGenera] and Lady Newall at the open- j ing yesterday afternoon of the society's spring show in the Town Hall, and Lady Newall was presented with a sheaf of lovely pink and mauve carnations and tulips by a little girl, Judy Levin, who wore a pink frilled organdie frock. Captain C. J. Holland-Martin accompanied their Excellencies, and other members of the official party were Mrs. Peter Fraser (wife of the Prime Minister), Mrs. T. C A. Hislop (Mayoress of Wellington), Lady Myers (wife of the Chief Justice), Dr. W. A. Riddell (High Commissioner for Canada), and Mrs. Riddell, Mr. W. M. Duncan (chairman of Parks and Reserves), and Mrs. Duncan, Mr. W. K. Dallas (Royal Institute of Horticulture) and Mrs. Dallas, Mr. G. S. Nicoll (Royal Institute of Horticulture), Captain S Holm (Beautifying Society), and Mrs Holm, Mr. N. B. Gibbons (president, Lower Hutt Horticultural Society), and Mrs. Gibbons, Mr. E. .H. Anderson (president, Eastbourne Horticultural Society), and Mrs. Anderson, Mr. W. D. Rough (president, Miramar Horticultural Society), and Mrs. Rough, Captain Sanderson (Forest and Bird Protection Society), Lady Pomare. Madame M. F Vigeveno, Madame Feng Wang, Madame Armand Nihotte, Madame Andre Pouquet, Madame Walter Schmid, Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Wright, Miss Amy Kane, and Mrs. M. Cooper. WEALTH OF BLOOMS. The hall was crowded with flowers and flower-lovers. The spring show is one which everyone loves—there is always such a wealth of blooms. Yesterday the displays were so numerous and so large that only a minimum of space was left between the stands for the visitors and as they were inclined to linger, arrested by the beauty of what they saw, it took quite a time to tour the spacious hall and see all there was to be seen. Their Excellencies and the official party spent a long time admiring the lovely exhibits. Afterwards they were entertained at tea by Mrs. Gilmer. A large crowd was also present in the evening, many of the visitors being people who had attended the show in the afternoon but felt that only by paying a second visit could they do the show justice.
