LATE MR. P. D. HOSKINS
LARGELY-ATTENDED
FUNERAL
The attendance at the funeral of Mr. P. D. Hoskins, which took place from St. Joseph's Church, Buckle Street, . this morning, showed the esteem in which he was held by the community. The chief mourners were Mrs. Hoskins, Messrs. D. and L. Hoskins (sons), and Mrs. B. Pritchard, Misses Doris, Margaret, Kathleen, and Edna Hoskins (daughters). The pallbearers were Colonel J. G. Roache, Messrs. A. J. Ridler, P. Hazeldon, M. H. Carroll, R. C. Scanlon, B. O'Brien, and D. Leahy.
Solemn Requiem Mass was celebrated at St. Joseph's Church, the celebrant being the Rev. Dr. Mcßae. The Rev. Father Phillips (Kjlbirnie) was deacon, the Rev. Father Mannix sub-deacon, and the Rev. Father Heavey master of ceremonies. There was a large gatherii g of representatives of. practically all the clergy of the city. His Grace Archbishop O'Shea presided, and Monsignor Connolly and the Very Rev. Dean Holly (Blenheim) were present. Archbishop O'Shea preached the panegyric, and gave the absolutions.
Father Heayey officiated at the grave, side at Karori.
The Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) was present,' accompanied by Mr. P. J. Smith, private secretary to the Minister of Education (Mr. Mason), and there was a wide representation of the many bodies on which Mr. Hoskins had played such a memorable part, amongst them being the Hibernian Society, the Catholic Services Institute, the Catholic Boy Scouts, St. Patrick's College, all the Catholic schools of the city, the National Council of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Wellington Catholic Education Trust Board, and the Post and Telegraph Department.
