DIAMOND WEDDING
DESCENDANTS OF PIONEERS
Mr. and Mrs. McNabb, of Upper Hutt, recently celebrated their diamond wedding. A reception was held at the" Druids' Hall, and a large number of friends and relatives spent an enjoyable time.
Mr. and Mrs. McNabb's parents and grandparents came to >New Zealand in 1841-42 in the ships Fifeshire, Martha Raye, and the Indus, three of the first vessels to land at Nelson. They have reared a family of four sons and •. five daughters, Mr. A. M. McNabb (Feilding), Mrs. A. McGlashen (Motueka), Mrs. G. S. Dyson (Hawera), Messrs. A. W. and M. C. McNabb (Lower Hutt), Mrs. E-C v Cooper (Kilbi'rni£).V Mrs. L: Russell A -Upper Hutt),; Mr/;'D;/E/ McNabb (Lyall Bay), and Mrs. T. O. Petersen (Auckland). There are 38 grandchildren and 34 greatgrandchildren. . -
Mr. and Mrs. McNabb both enjoy good health and are both very active. Mrs. McNabb claims to be the first white woman to walk from Karamea to Collingwood, distance of 80 miles. She and her husband- travelled the sea coast for 25 miles, then through dense forest till they reached the Golden Downs, then by bridle track to Collingwood. The journey was done in under three 'days. This was 42 years ago.
