SQUADRON FORMED

In addition to the New Zealand bomber and fighter squadrons operating in the United Kingdom, a New Zealand torpedo bomber squadron has now been established. Announcing this today, the Minister of Defence (Mr. Jones) said that the new unit was formed on August 12, I under the Empire Air Training Scheme 1 agreement. It will be equipped with ; aircraft of a modern type—a type j which has already been proved in ! numerous successful actions. ! j "I am sure that New Zealanders will welcome the formation of yet another Dominion unit in the United Kingdom," said Mr. Jones. "The New Zealand bomber and fighter squadrons have already established a magnificent record, and the new torpedo bomber squadron will undoubtedly add still further to our air tradition. I think we can all be proud of the fact that New Zealand airmen have been recognised all oyer the world for their outstanding abilities. "To date, 118 officers and airmen from this country have won awards for courage, outstanding service, and devotion to duty, and this record is by no means the end of the story. We all wish the new torpedo bomber squadron good hunting and good luck."
