GERMAN AND RUSSIAN COMMUNIQUES

(Rec. 9 a.m.) LONDON, August 19.

A Berlin communique states: "The entire region west of the Dnieper is now in our hands. We launched an attack on Odessa and isolated bridgeheads on the lower Dnieper. The enemy suffered heavy losses in the course of these fights. Sixty thousand prisoners were taken, in addition to the 'number reported to have been taken in the battle of Uman. Eightyfour tanks, 530 guns, and an abundance of other war materials were captured. We captured in the harbour a 1; Nikolaiev a battleship of 35,000 tons, a c-uiser of 10,000 tons, four destroyers, and two submarines, all of which were still on the stocks, and in addition we sank Qne gunboat and severely damaged another and captured a floating dock fully laden with locomotives."

A Russian communique states: "Fierce fighting continued yesterday along the entire front. During August 16, 25 German planes were shot down, not 19, as previously reported On Augus* 17, 22 German planes were brought down in air combats. Our losses were 18 planes. Our motor tor-pedo-boats sank in the Baltic an enemy submarine and two transports."
