SIX MONTHS' GAOL
THREE OFFENCES WITH CAR
A sentence of six months" imprisonment with hard labour was imposed by Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court today upon George William Arthur Henderson, aged 23, a labourer, for converting to his own use a car valued at £215, the property of C. K. Smith. Henderson was convicted and discharged for driving without a licence and for being in a state of intoxication while in charge of the car in Park Street last night. He pleaded guilty. Sub-Inspector L. H. Capp said that the car was removed from Tinakori Road last night and that the accused was found in the driver's seat of the car in Park Street, after the car had collided with a- tram. He was drunk. He told the police that he had. had about a dozen whiskies and that he intended to drive to Featherston. He had been discharged from gaol as recently as July 27. The car was damaged to the extent of £5.
