PLENTY OF SNOW
WINTER'S ICY GRIP
Hills on the eastern side of the harbour had a good covering of snow today. There was a fair amount yesterday, and considerably more this morning, the white mantle extending down to quite low levels. The Tararuas and the Rimutakas are naturally overlaid much thicker, and the Rimutaka Hill road is in a dangerous state for motorists.
Wellington is by no means the only place in the Dominion where snow can be seen at the present time. During the last day or two it has been snowing all along the east coast and on the high country from Otago northwards to southern Hawke's Bay, and snow this morning was down to low levels all the way between Christchurch and Masterton. Most of the Dominion has been well and truly caught in winter's grip, but some relaxation is probable with the change in wind direction which is forecast.
