KELBURN PLUNKET WORK

CURTAILMENT LIKELY

It was reported at a recent meeting of the Wellington branch of the Plunket Society that owing to lack of support in Kelburn, and to the society's present financial straits, the service in that area would have to be curtailed unless the mothers and fathers gave it more support.

The photographic exhibition held in the D.I.C. lounge realised £176, and the vacation dance £12. It was decided that another vacation dance be held on August 25. Arrangements were made regarding the annual ball, to be held in the Town Hall on July 11.

A BUSY MONTH,

Miss Samson, charge nurse, reported that 329 visits were paid to the prenatal clinic during the month. In the post-natal section there were 222 new babies. Visits to rooms in city and suburbs totalled 3611 adults, 3223 babies, and 390 older children, while visits paid by nurses to homes were 1486. In the pre-school section there were 31 new cases, and visits in this section totalled 324 adults and children. The month had been a busy one. especially in suburban rooms, where attendances constituted a record.

Miss Woodhead, matron of the Sir Truby and Lady King Karitane Hospital, reported that 13 mothers and 30 babies were admitted to the hospital during the month and 13 mothers and 27 babies discharged, leaving 6 mothers and 28 babies in hospital at the end of the month. Of the admissions, a mother with twins came from Levin and one baby from Porirua, the others being from Wellington and suburbs, and Lower Hutt. Visitors for the month totalled 332, including eight maternity students from the St. Helens Hospital.
