GRAND RESULTS
GOLD AND SILVER APPEAL
An appeal for articles of gold and silver to raise funds for patriotic purposes was made by the Mayoress, Mrs. T. C. A. Hislop, some time ago. This first effort, known as the Mayoress Go^d and Silver Fund, has concluded with splendid results, £410 4s 3d having been received and paid in to the Wellington Provincial Patriotic Fund.
A wide selection o* articles of various values was sent in. Expert valuation was obtained, and the public were able to make offers of purchase (the articles were on view), with the result that all have been sold, with the exception of an ornamental cross and some old coins. •
A further and similar effort would be made later, said the Mayoress. Meanwhile she would be pleased to receive articles, should anyone wish to send them, to be kept and dealt with at the later date.
"I think the result is most satisfactory and those associated with me are equally pleased with it," said Mrs. Hislop. She also expressed her thanks to the sub-committee, which made arrangements for the disposal, and also to Mrs. Tingey and Miss Quinton for the part they played throughout the auoeaL
