A man who destroyed his .303 calibre rifle before he received on i m press- ; ment notice from the Government, ' Keir Hardie Samms, appeared in the : Christchurcli Police Court on Satur- | day. before Mr. E. "Inquiries were I made, and Samms made a statement tv ! the police in which lie said that, be- ; cause of his holding conscientious views, he had anticipated the im pressI ment notice and destroyed the riile, ; throwing it in pieces into the Heathi cote River," said Mr., Turner. Samms ! said that he had not been aware that Ihe had to notify the destruction ol the riile. He did .so immediately the I impressment notice was sent.
