NEW RECORD IN SALES
Satisfactory results and substantial progress during the year ended March 31. 1941. are indicated in the annual report of the Hutt Valley Electric Power Board.
The following figures for 1940-41 were given in the report in contrast with ihe figures for 1925-26. which are in parentheses:- Population, 58.000 (27.000); number of installations. 16.451 (3392); total unu t purchased. 62.473.430 (4,305.630); total units sold. 56,794.934 (3,631.720): net revenue sales of electricity £168.743 (£24.413); working cost per unit sold. 559 d (.75d); X.V.A. maximum demand. 13,848 (1342).
Cheap industrial, commercial, and domestic rates, have again resulted in a considerable increase ol units sold and in consequence a definite reduction in cost per unit to the consumer.
The total capital expenditure under all headings to March 31, 1941, was £453,507. the added capital expenditure for the year under review being £16.307. Sales of electricity for the year show an increase of £17,084 on the figure for the previous year. Increases are shown under all headings except commercial lighting Out of a total income of £170.458, the board has paid the Government £96,558 for bulk supply. Administration expenditure represents only 23.66 per cent, of the total income.
Total expenditure for the year, which has been one of considerable development and major reconstruction, was £152.953. After deductions for interest on loan payment, replacements, sinking fund, and redemption of debentures, net profit was £11,459. Mr. S. Blackley has been elected chairman for the year.
