WAIWHETU STREAM WILLOWS

A proposal was made recently to the Hutt River Board by the Government Housing Department that, for the purpose of obtaining better drainage in the Waiwhetu Stream, the willows along the stream should be poisoned and removed.

The proposal has brought several protests from residents in the vicinity, some alleging that the chief cause of the blockage of the stream is not the willows.

The board, at its meeting this week, decided that, prior to discussing the question, members, in company with the engineer, should make a personal inspection.

The proposal will be discussed in a fortnight's time.
