RIOTOUS BRILLIANT

CLARION CALL DOUBTFUL

(0.C.) PALMERSTON N., This Day. Overnight rain left the going slightly greasy at Awapuni yesterday morning, and as a result the jumpers were not as much in the picture as expected. The outstanding trial on the new steeplechase track was that of Riotous, who, ridden by P. Brady, gave a grand, display over a round. It was a joy to see him fly the logs and the sod wall. Clarion Call was favouring a leg when he left the course on Tuesday, and he was not out on the tracks. The outstanding effort over the schooling hurdles was that of Foxiana. who will be in firm favour for the Century Hurdles. Ridden by P. Brady, he jumped in company with Manteau (A. Jenkins), and although Manteau kept with him on the flat Foxiana was brilliant at the hurdles, gaining a couple of lengths at each. They travelled a bit over a mile and jumped four fences

Ruling Star (J. Hayes) was sent over four brush fences, giving a sound display. Others to tackle the schooling hurdles were Colibri (M. Bowdcn) and Haile Selassie (M. Wright). They jumped six flights, and Colibri was fairly impressive. Majority (P. Brady) and Gay Fox (J. Hayes) were companions over four nights, the latter going better than he did on Tuesday. High Peer (E Temperlon) and Cuisinier (Miss White) also gave a satisfactory display. Ruatiti (Brady) started out with Beau Monde (P. Rae), but the latter tipped out at the second fence. Ruatiti went well for a novice.

Aurora's Star (W. J. Broughton) and Gaelic Song (M. Caddy) were together at the end of a mile in lmin 55 2-ssec Cheetah (G. R. Tattersall) and Newbury Queen (S. Anderson) sprinted six furlongs in lmin 14 4-ssec, finishing well, and Renascor (Temperton) was in front of St. Felicien (J. Watson) at the end of six in lmin 24 3-ssec. Renascor went well in the going.

Rangitikei ,and Kanui te Pai sprinted a smart five in lmin 9 l-ssec; Swell Chance and Sandy Bay were not under pressure at the end of five in lmin 10 sec: Colonel Bogey and Rhodes took lmin llsec; Fly-by-Night, Victoire, and Elusory covered the distance in lmin lOsec; Deflation and Caution lmin 10 3-ssec; Kena and Sweet Anne were going well at the post after recording lmin 9 3-ssec; War Credit beat Manahau in lmin 11 2-ssec; Ringless was not required to do better than even time. Myarion and Last Acre were just in front of Tau-Uru at the end of seven furlongs in lmin 36sec. It was a nice <?irort.
