DISCUSSION BEGUN
CONSCRIPTION IN ULSTER
LONDON, May 24,
The Prime Minister of Northern Ireland, Mr. J. M. Andrews, arrived in England today. He is expected to visit Mr. Churchill to confer on the extension of conscription to Northern Ireland.
It is officially stated in Dublin that Cabinet and the leaders of the Opposition met to consider the situation regarding the application of conscription to the six counties. The Prime Minister, Mr. E. de Valera, summoned the Dail for May 26 to receive a statement on a matter of urgent public importance.
The "Irish Times" (Dublin) says: "We realise the British Government has a strong case but consider the enforcement of conscription would be a grave mistake." —U.P.A.
PRIME MINISTER RETURNS
LONDON, May 25,
The Prime Minister of Northern Ireland returned to Belfast today after his conference with Mr. Churchill and other Ministers on the question of conscription for Northern Ireland. It is thought likely that he will make an early statement to the Northern Ireland Parliament and that this will coincide with a similar statement by Mr. Churchill in the House of Commons.
Three other Ministers from Northern Ireland are remaining in England for a few days for further consultations on departmental matters arising out of Ulster's war effort.
