APATHY SHOWN

FRENCH TROOPS

FORGES IN SYRIA

VICHY'S ORDERS

LONDON, May 21

A French regiment in Syria has joined the Free French forces which entered the country, according to the independent French news agency. A number of French pilots managed to escape and join the Free French.

Large French forces under the French High Commissioner, M. Dentz, apparently moved into Lebanon to forestall possible intervention from Palestine. The regiment which has joined the Free French formed the rearguard of this force.

The Syrian authorities are even meeting with hostility among troops who have reached Lebanon.

According to the Berlin radio, M. Dentz announced that the British again Rayak aerodrome, and that British planes from Palestine also bombed Messe and Kissu.

An Iraki communique states: "The battle of uHabbania continues. Our planes bombed hangars and stores, causing considerable damage."
