Quoting the remarks of the Australian Prime Minister, Mr. Menzies, as cabled from New York, when speaking of the great changes the war would make in the world of the future, and especially his statement that the status of women would be more important because of the extent to which they were fighting now, Mrs. E. M. Gilmer Citizens' candidate for the City Council, said last night that this fully justified her claim to a seat. Her experience on the Hospital Board and other bodies had shown her that a woman's influence could be extremely valuable ,in many matters, especially those .affecting women, while, when her

general knowledge of the practical side of business affairs was extensive, a woman was, if anything, more practical than many men, often going straighter to the point. Women's position j i affairs had changed, and they were fighting with effect in many directions, for the good of the ,world, apart from their wholehearted effort in the war.
