NAZIS IN NORTH AFRICA
NOT ALL THEIR OWN WAY
NO RESPITE BY R.A.F.
LONDON, April 18,
Netvs from North Africa indicates that the Germans are not having things all their own way there. The German drive in Libya, it was learned in London today, has apparently stopped in the Tobr,ukSollum area. Whether this is because the enemy are unable to advance or want to revise their plans is not clear. What is clear is that the British troops have kept them" busy.
Today's Cairo communique reports further patrol activity by the British troops, resulting in considerable enemy losses in men and vehicles. Five more officers and 75 other ranks have been captured in hand-to-hand encounters. Meanwhile, aircraft give the enemy no respite from bombing and machinegun attacks. .
British and Australian planes are reported in an R.A.F. communique from Cairo today to have caused considerable damage yesterday to troop concentrations, landing grounds, stores, and dumps. At Derna bombs fell among a number of enemy aircraft on the ground, and the explosions that followed were felt by the pilots at a height of 3000 feet. ' All the British planes returned safely. During a recent German air attack on an aerodrome in Libya, bombs hit a building in which Italian prisoners were billeted. The British hospital staff turned out immediately to treat the injured prisoners, despite a rain of German machine-gun bullets.
