SERVICE APPEALS

ADJOURNMENTS FOR SEAMEN

Supported by the employing companies and the NeAv Zealand Shipowners' Federation, a number of appeals on behalf of seamen Avhich came before the Armed Forces Appeal Board today Avert, adjourned sine die. The men concerned, and their occupations, were:—Kenneth Graham, seaman; Malcolm John Mackay, seaman; Alexander David Robertson, mercantile marine engineer; James Patrick Carmody, ship's steAvard and seaman; EdAvard Lawrence Derrett,-seaman; Cecil Harris, marine officer; Bertram Charles Neilson, cook; Donald Macdonald, able seaman; George Reilly, ship's Aviper; and Louis Anderson, seaman.

Adjournments sine die Avere also granted in the cases of Harry Lane, a hosiery machine operator, and Dudley James Aldous, a petroleum technician, for whom the Director of National Service lodged appeals on the ground of public interest

-Seeking a postponement of calling up, Alder and Mackay, Ltd., appealed, on the ground of public inter'-st and hardship, on behalf of two of their employees, Ernest Victor Knott and David Craig, both gas meter makers. The application for Craig Avas adjourned sine die, and that on behalf of Knott was dismissed, subject.to his not being called up before July 8.

Domestic hardship Avas the ground advanced by Maxie Williams, a Avire Avorker, and by Kenneth William Nixon, a porter, both married men. Both appeals Avere dismissed, but Williams is not to be called up before July 31 ari Nixon not before August 18. The former madj it clear that he Avas seeking a postponement.

Lan Leonard Kendrick, a bookbinder, at present serving Avith the Territorial Force, appealed on the ground of hardship to his AvidoAved mother. The appeal Avas dismissed.

The Board consisted of Mr. W. F. StilAvell, S.M.. who presided, and Messrs. A, Parlane and P. Coyle. Mr. C. O. Bell appeared for the CroAvn.
