RUTHLESS DRAIN
FRENCH MATERIALS FOR GERMANY
TRANSPORT PRIORITIES

RUGBY, March 31
Further information has reached London from reliable sources regarding the priorities being enforced on the French railways as part of a transport programme ensuring the passage into Germany of French materials vital to the Nazi war effort
Absolute priority, for example, is being accorded to 8000 tons of magnesium destined for south and central Germany. 2200 tons of Chilean nitrates in unoccupied France, and 4000 hectolitres of petrol which is to be transported from unoccupied France to Italy.
A first category priority has been given to 30,000 tons of bauxite for carriage out of unoccupied France into western Germany, while 10,000 tons of aluminium destined for north and central Germany ranks only for second category priority.
The whole programme, however, reveals a persistent and ruthless drain from unoccupied France of goods of all kinds by the Nazis, in pursuance of their hopes of securing by the defeat of Britain not only the final enslavement of all France but also of the entire Continent.
Dr. A. Crowther, assistant lecturer in the department of philosophy and education at Canterbury College, has been granted leave of absence for the duration of the war by * the College Council. Mrs. Crowther has been appointed to fill the vacancy.
