Following the advice of the Home Secretary, Mr. Morrison, in a recent speech, that the population of Britain should be ready at any time to face gas attack, a residential district and the main shopping area of Kingston-on-Thames tor'-iy were the scene of

n;-is exorcises.'

Tear gas was released, and people in the streets immediately put on gas masks, it being noteworthy that children responded most quickly to the danger. Wardens were stationed to give necessary advice to those who seemed unable to use masks satisfactorily, but generally the public, including drivers of vehicles, responded well.
