DISPUTE AT BLUFF
(By Telecrraph—Press Association.)
INVERCARGILL, February 17
" A conference between representatives of the wholesale oyster merchants and the Seamen's and Oystermen's Union took place at Bluff, this afternoon with a view to settling a dispute which has resulted in the oyster boats being idle since the nominal opening of the season on Saturday.
■ A telegram sent to the Prime Ministeron Saturday pointed, out the serious results a prolonged, hold-up would have, and urged him to take steps ,for an early settlement. The dispute concerns the size of sacks. The oystermen asked that sacks holding sixty dozen. oysters should be used, but the merchants maintained their preference for sacks similar to-those used in other seasons, ordinary wheat sacks.
After a long discussion the meeting broke up and it was announced that no progress had been made. Mr. E. G. Sherrock, inspector of the Department of Labour, was chairman, and Mr. F. A. Reay, of the Department, was also present.
