"THE RIGHT THING"

MOHAMMEDAN BURIAL

Approval of the action of a Presbyterian Minister, the Rev. J. D. McLennan Wilson, in conducting at New Plymouth a burial service in accordance with the Mohammedan rites, was expressed by the Rev. Gladstone Hughes, Minister of St. John's Presbyterian Church, to "The Post" today.

"The Mohammedan faith is a thqistic faith," he. said, "and I suppose' Mr. Wilson looked upon it from that standpoint. The Mohammedans believe in God. and notwithstanding the differences between them, and the Christians, on an occasion like that he thought he would be justified in meeting them and showing tolerance which certainly would help rather than hinder.

"There's no doubt some people will object," continued Mrv Hughes, "but I don't think many will. I don't think Mr. Wilson compromised his own faith or his own church in any way. He met the demand of a human situation and I think he did the right thing."

(A telegram regarding the burial appears on page 4.)
