FUTURE OFFICERS

DUNTROON CADETS

TEN SELECTIONS MADE

The names of ten New Zealand cadets who have been selected to attend a three years' course at the Royal Military College at Duntroon, Australia, with a view to qualifying as officers in the New Zealand Military Forces, were announced today by the Minister of Defence (Mr. Jones).

They are: —

Bruce Allen Andrews, of Auckland; Horatio Archibald Colquhoun, of Wellington; Ronald Douglas Patrick Hassett, of Wellington; Colin Bonar Allen Jamison, of Christchurch; Cecil Coles Jordan, of Tauranga; Selwyn Russell Lewis, of Rotorua; Ronald Charles McKay, of Waipawa; Joseph Wallace Stenberg, of Wellington; Jack Ross Warrington, of Hamilton; Leslie Watson Wright, of Napier.

The ages of the cadets range from 17 years eight months to 19 years four months.

The selection of these cadets, said the Minister, was in accordance with the Government's policy of close cooperation with Australia in defence matters, and was in continuance of the decision to send to the Royal Military College a sufficient number of cadets each year to ensure that the future requirements of the New Zealand Military Forces would be met.

The boys had just completed a twelve days'- course at the Army School, Trentham, prior to a final selection being made. "They are all of a fine type, with scholastic and athletic qualifications above the average, and will undoubtedly maintain the high standard which has been set in the past by New Zealand cadets at Duntroon," added the Minister.
