COMPULSORY LOAN
A strong protest is made by a correspondent against the principle embodied in the conditions governing subscriptions to the compulsory war loan. For the purpose of assessing the subscription due, dividends derived from any company resident in New Zealand are excluded, but dividends from companies incorporated outside New Zealand are not. The correspondent points out that, for taxation purposes,. the two classes of company have been on exactly the same basis. Where the company is resident does not affect any principle of taxation, and the method adopted in assessing the war loan subscription amounts to double taxation.
