MINOR DAMAGE ELSEWHERE
Apart from the large slip in Carey Street little real'damage was done in the Wellington City area. Minor slips occurred in a number of places, and in some cases property was inundated. A number of minor slips and blocked drains in the Botanical Gardens and at some city reserves made a good deal of work for the reserves department's staff. The Khandallah baths were shut today and will be closed tomorrow owing to gravel brought down by the creek. Until 9 a.m. today Wellington had six inches of rain. The 24-hour rainfalls to 9 a.m. on-.Thursday and Fridayand this morning wer.e 1.75 in, 2.48 in, and 1.78h* respectively, - The heaviest fall occurred in the city yesterday, when 1.7 inches fell between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.
The rainfall at- Featherston yesterday was 1.94 in.
Following 7in to 9 a.m. on Thursday morning, 4in more rain fell in the Orbngorongo catchment area, making llin for two days. The discoloration of the city water made it necessary to cut off the Orongorongo supply altogether.
Owing to slips near Tawa Flat railway traffic on the Main Trunk has been restricted to a single line. Small slips on the Wairarapa line betv c'en the Summit and Cross Creek caused some, delay to trains. , •
