BLENHEIM, This Day

Although bringing relief to the plains area and the Awatere district, which have been suffering from a proIcnged dry spell, heavy rain I yesterday and today caused flooding in the Canvastown, Rai Valley, and Opouri districts, in the latter of which considerable damage was caused. This morning the main Blenheim-Nelson highway was blocked between Canvastown arid Havelock, and between Canvastown and Rai alley. the water reaching a depth of tft 6in in places. noon. * Serrous Hooding is reported in the Opouri Valley. A bridge has been washed away, at one end and a slip estimated to contain 1000 cubic yards came down on the Ronga Road, carrying part of the road away. Some culverts were washed out and at the moment road communication to Opouri is completely cut off. Much of the land in the valley is under water, but the settlers, had sufficient \ arning of the danger and the stock had been removed to safe places.
