DAMAGE IN CITY
RAINFALL FIGURES
Wellington city and the southern hall of-'lhe Wellington Province received the brunt of last night's rain storm. Two and a hall" inches of rain fell in the city during the last 24 hours, two inches at Masterton. and a little over three inches at Featherston. ;
In the city area damage was mostly confined to small slips, but there was a fall of material across the Queen'? Drive, at Houghton Bay (where a large slip occurred in December, 1939), sum cient to block the road. A bulldozer was put to work early, this morning, and the City Engineer (Mr. K. E. Luke) said he had received a report at noon that, the road was open to traffic again. . . , •' A number of householders on the hills have had to contend with small slips on their properties.
