GILBERT AND SULLIVAN SEASON.
Among the works of Gilbert and Sullivan none is more popular than "The Gondoliers," which is drawing capacity audiences to the Opera House. Its lilting melodies, its merry confusion of events, and its general appeal of setting and scenery are themselves almost sufficient to ensure the success of this favourite comic opera, and when they are enhanced as in the present case by the work of a first-class Williamson company, there is no denying a well-deserved triumph. The company includes several artists who have previously won their way into the hearts of Wellington theatregoers. Ivan Menzies, as the Duke of Plaza Toro Evelyn Gardiner as the Duchess, Gregory Stroud, and Vincent McMurray as the two gondoliers. Sara Gregory, and Phyllis Curnow, Viola Wilson, and Richard Watson are among those who make "The Gondoliers" a sparkling production fully in keeping with the Gilbert and Sullivan tradition.
