JEWS WANT TO FIGHT

MOVEMENT FDR OWN ARMY

(By Telegraph-7-Press Association;,)

AUCKLAND,* February 2.

• The great desire of Jews throughout the world to form their own army and fight in the Allied cause was emphasised by .Mr. David Ben-Gurion, who arrived from the United States by the California Clipper.

Mr. Ben-Gurion is chairman of the Palestine executive of the ' Jewish Agency, and is on his way to Palestine.

When he left London towards the end of last year the British Government had agreed in principle to the establishment of a Jewish army. Only details remained to be completed. He hoped to hear any day that the scheme was to be put into effect. However, if further difficulties were met with the Jewish Agency and others who advocated the army would continue to press for i.ts formation.

What was proposed was an army composed of Jews from Palestine and from neutral countries throughout, the world. There were thousands of the race in many countries who wished to fight, for two .important reasons: firstly, to'help Britain and, secondly, to defeat Hitler. ' ,
