MINISTERS IN CANTERBURY

TIMARU, January 31

The Minister of Finance, Mr. Nash, the Minister of Railways, Mr. Semple, and the Minister of Public Works, Mr. Armstrong, inspected the Levels irrigation scheme today, accompanied by the .Assistant Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department, Mr. W. Newnham; and the district engineer, Mr. T. G. Beck. The Ministers were greatly impressed with the possibilities of the scheme.

I Later they inspected the v Public Works workshop at Temuka, and expressed surprise at, the efficiency of the organisation. Mr. Nash said the products of the shop compared most favourably with those of any similar shop. The .Temuka shop services practically the whole of the Public Works undertakings in the South Island and has a highly-skilled staff and much valuable plant.
